Lomas del Encanto
Tranquility on the Shores of Lake Nicaragua

Lomas del Encanto (the Hills of Enchantment) offers you beauty, privacy, peace and quiet with a bird’s eye view of the Isletas de Granada and Lake Nicaragua. The recently built Danish-colonial-design house is situated on one of the highest hills on the peninsula El Diamante and offers views of the colonial-domed churches of Granada, the Mombacho, Ometepe and Masaya volcanoes. The home is situated in a rural-nature setting just 7 km from the oldest city in Central America (founded in 1522).

The rental home sits on a 20 hectare, ecologically managed farm located on the Asese peninsula. It has used best-perm culture practices for the past decade and recently reforested the farm with cacao-plants, as well as native plants and a diverse mixture of fruit- and timber trees that have led to an explosion in the biodiversity of the area. These newly created habitats are the home of many native animals, including a troop of howler monkeys that are your early morning wakeup call for breakfast at sunrise.

At the foot of the Lomas del Encanto you will find a palm-thatched roof 'rancho' and a small boat dock just a short walk down from the house on the hill. There you can take a boat ride in a replica of an old shark fishing sailboat. You also find horses here that can connect you to different parts of the natural surroundings.

There is a fully functional and well-equipped kitchen with fridge, freezer, stove and oven, as well as microwave oven. There is cold and solar-hot water in the kitchen. Right next to the porch, you have the kitchen-garden… always at reach when you want to add fresh basil or oregano to the salad you are making, or fresh, ecologically grown ginger, mint, or peppers. The living-room has a dining-table and a sofa-group. The built-in 170 gallon aquarium in the living room is stocked with native cichlid fish from the lake. The house is simple, hassle free with large picture windows and doors that open to the every-changing colors of the nature surrounding you.

The master-bedroom has its own large bathroom with king-size bed, a shower and tub, with solar-heated water. The second and third bedrooms share a full bath with shower and tub, as well as a terrace overlooking the Mombacho volcano and the adjacent hills that are the home of the howler monkey family.

Upstairs you will find the fourth bedroom a full bath, a balcony with a spectacular view of the property and the surrounding islands, Lake Cocibolca and mountains that can be seen for over 50 km. It also gives a great view of Ometepe Island (with the Maderas and Concepción Volcanoes) to the east and Colonial Granada and the smoking crater of the Masaya Volcano in the distance, some 30 kilometers away to the west.

From the kitchen and living room, there is direct access to porches – one open, and one shaded with a pergola-roof, made of passion-fruit and flowering plants. A 15 meter long undulating ‘Gaudi-style’ bench frames the porch, from where you can see the humming-birds collect pollen from the flowers all around you. There are napping hammocks and sitting-hammocks – so you can just relax!

From the kitchen garden, you can walk up to the passion-fruit plantation and continue around the hill on the yellow trail, or take the blue trail down the side of the hill and around, down to the dock. Or from the blue trail take the red trail, and walk to the next hill, and see the re-planting project and hopefully get a glimpse of an iguana, a rare frog, beautiful birds or some of the armadillos that live on the hills. The walking trails are marked, but you have access all over the farm. Just please respect and take care of the plants and animals.
