Quinta Pasos
Historic Home of Famous Poet

This home is named after the renowned Nicaraguan poet, Joaquin Pasos Cuadra who lived in the house until his death in 1947. The short, but productive life of Granada’s most famous poet has been eulogized during poetry recitations in front of Quinta Pasos during the past few International Poetry Festivals. As such, the house is being considered for inclusion as a Cultural Heritage Site. History is truly felt in this home, which was built over 150 years ago as a Quinta where cattle roamed "far away" from Granada and close to Lake Cocibolca. Today it is surrounded by a beautiful tropical garden with old mango and avocado trees, as well as star and passion fruit and banana plants in full production. Within the last 15 years the house has been restored to maintain its colonial charm, with cane and tile roofing, colorful mosaics, high ceilings and exposed, original woodwork to make a very interesting, comfortable, ‘rustic’ home, especially for families with children.

Quinta Pasos has an outdoor, screened-in colonial living/dining area, which looks out into the tropical gardens, children’s pool and sandbox, and small skateboard-ramp. The house has four bedrooms and an office on the second floor, which could easily be turned into a fifth bedroom. A small balcony from the second floor looks out towards the largest lake in Central America, Lake Cocibolca, which is located only 150 meters from the house. Quinta Pasos has two full baths, TV room and spacious kitchen. A separate colonial style outer building contains laundry room, utility storage cupboards, and a half bath, and another small outer-house provides storage room. Benefiting from the breezes coming off the lake, the entire house is open, protected with mosquito netting and quiet ceiling fans. The back garden is shaded by a centrally located old ‘butter avocado’ tree and has a covered brick grill, as well as mosaics walk-board.

Quinta Pasos is situated on the Calle La Calzada boulevard, which is Granada’s number one tourist destination. Calle La Calzada has many great restaurants and some great shopping opportunities. Within a minute to the lake and Malecón, and an eight-minute walk from the heart of the colonial city center, the quinta has a prominent location. Quinta Pasos is a quiet and tranquil house, surrounded by lush green gardens bathed by the sounds of the waves of Lake Cocibolca in the late evenings.
